While there are no mugshots available, there is plenty of other information on inmates, such as booking number, ID number, physical descriptors, violation, arresting officer/body, booking date, projected release date, and bail amount (or if bail is allowed). To use this tool, individuals can search by first name, last name, and/or the date range for when the person was booked.

Searches are able to be conducted with minimal information, such as only a last name, but the more information provided will yield less results and expedite the search.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office: If information on a recent inmate is desired and not available through the jail’s search tool, then the Marion County Sheriff’s Office – Criminal Records Unit should be able to assist.⁴

When there are criminal charges involved, though, records will not be releasable or viewable until the individual arrested has gone to court and the case has been finalized. Once this happens, the records become public information.

Salem Police Department: For arrests made by the Salem Police Department, there are a myriad of resources available to help citizens locate and view reports.⁶ First, if still searching for the correct report, take a look at the Community Crime Map. This tool is where the city details all recent incidents that took place.

Alternatively, members of the public can request a list of reports relating to either a name or an address. If photographs and videos documenting the arrest are available, citizens have the right to request copies of those materials, though some sensitive materials may be exempt under the law.

If information on the desired report is already known, folks can utilize the Public Records portal. After creating a free account, people should be able to search for the record by the incident number and incident type, entering a date range, the location of the incident, and/or the names of involved parties. Fees for obtaining records begin at $20.00 per report.

How To Look Up Prior Arrests & Charges in Marion County Oregon

Marion County Circuit Court: In addition to the sheriff’s office and jail, the Marion County Circuit Court houses all court records, including those with criminal offenses and arrests.

If folks only want to view records, there is an option to go to the courthouse in person and use one of the six terminals in the lobby of the records department to search and view documents for free. The lobby is open from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and again from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Oregon State Police: The Oregon State Police keeps records of all arrests made within the state, but details will only be made available to the public in specific scenarios. First, if someone searches for his or her own criminal history, a copy can be granted.

If searching for another person’s criminal history, only reports of arrests and convictions made in the last 12 months where there have been no acquittals or dismissals involved will be considered public records.

In the state of Oregon, the person who is listed on the record will be notified that a request has been made to view his or her criminal history. The information that will be given to the requester includes the following:

• Offense for which arrest was made
• County where the incident took place
• Arresting agency
• Terms and conditions of the sentence

There is a fee of $33.00 for requesting details of any criminal history through the state police. Requests can be placed online using the Open Records Portal provided by the agency. To utilize this, folks will have to create a free account.

If placing a request via mail or in person is preferred, the process varies depending on whose history is being searched; for those searching for their own criminal reports, there is a Copy of Own Record PDF to fill out. Additional steps will be required, such as being fingerprinted (which costs $30.00). Once the individual receives his or her official fingerprint card, it should be sent, along with the PDF, to the OSP.

• Oregon Judicial Branch: The Oregon Judicial Branch provides an Online Records Search Tool for individuals to look for any archived public records, which could include arrests or criminal offenses.
• Oregon Secretary of State: The Oregon Secretary of State archives a variety of records from all levels of government throughout the state and may have some involving arrests or criminal offenses. How To Find a Bail Bondsman or Post Bail for Someone Arrested in Marion County

Typically, the only option for posting bail in Marion County is to pay a cash bond. This means that the individual arrested, or someone on his or her behalf, personally pays for the release of the individual.

The bail amount can be determined by using the inmate roster from the Marion County Jail website or by calling the jail directly at 503-581-1183.¹¹

Because the state of Oregon does not allow the use of a bail bondsman or agency, the state typically allows the loved ones of an individual to pay 10% of the total amount set by the Marion County Circuit Court.

Cashier’s checks need to be made out to the State of Oregon, be accompanied by a photo ID, and are only accepted for charges originating from Marion County (if another arresting agency, such as a city police department, made the arrest, cashier’s checks may not be accepted).
